Children take inspiration from sculpture

Man of Steel is continuing its journey around Yorkshire with a stop at Bradfield School in Sheffield. Pupils had chance to take a sneak peek at a scale model of the sculpture before it becomes a real-life Yorkshire landmark.

They were also treated to a sculpture workshop by designer Steve Mehdi, which inspired pupils to create their own works of art.

The three metre high model, based on the design by Steve, was created in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield University’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) using sophisticated 3D scanning and modelling software. The model has been touring around Yorkshire; visiting schools, universities and shopping centres to help generate support for the project.

Once the sculpture is complete, schools will have access to the visitor centre and specially designed curriculum materials to educate pupils in the history of Yorkshire’s steel and coal industries, as well as give them an insight into advancements in the new technology sector.
